My goal for this body of work was to focus through the lens of Depth on the portrayal of Emotions given by a physical subject. My series of orbs highlights how three beings can have the same properties but radiate different emotions. In the realm of depth, the orbs are a step toward the emotion they are trying to emulate and a step back from the physical subject since the orbs are not people but beings. The beings only have one feature to create an emotion: their eyes. This series is the closest to the emotion and farthest from the subject. My series of portraits however is a step towards the physical subject and a step backward in emotion. The emotion in the portraits is harder to read than the orbs because there are more moving parts to people than the beings. People are a step towards the physical however because there is more to see than the orbs. The piece of the two faces screaming at each other is the opposite of the series of orbs. The two faces represent relationships which is a step towards the physical subject and a step away from the emotion because now we have two beings with multiple physical traits leading to an emotion reacting to another being doing the same thing. Each piece represents different emotions that I can physically feel while looking at them. They aren’t titled by these emotions because they are ones I have no names for and do not wish to find.
